who I am

I’m a freelance writer based in Sydney. My work has appeared in a diverse range of publications – the ABC, Australian Geographic, GALAH magazine, The Guardian, Herald Sun, SMH and more. I write features, travel and adventure pieces, profiles and personal essays, have a regular column in Wild magazine, a Substack newsletter and am working on my first book.

I was editor of iconic outdoor magazines Wild and Rock for three years before freelancing for more than 15, from feature writing to corporate communications and consulting. My focus remains the same throughout: to provide clear, concise, compelling copy aimed squarely at its audience, with warmth and humour to keep it interesting.

I’m also a mum of three, a lover of nature, adventure and connecting people, ideas and dots. I believe that following curiosity and joy reconnects us to what really matters, transforming individual lives and rippling on out to change the world.

what I do

To change the world, you’ve got to throw the better party. My writing is an invitation to the festival of the future, where we’re all engaged in actively, hopefully and courageously building a more beautiful, sustainable and balanced world. I invite people in to mingle with joy and possibilities, fuel themselves with hope, connection and creativity, join the transformative dance of intention, purpose and power.

My writing connects people to their optimism and agency, encourages them to make real, positive changes in their lives, reaching out into wider society. My articles are diverse in range: a travel piece about the joys of family bushwalking adventures; a profile of a trailblazing female rockclimber who has helped to transform her sport, community and town; a feature exploring the pathways into caring that turn people into ‘accidental activists’. Behind each piece is the belief that caring is the first step towards action and change.

why I do it

The society we’ve created values the wrong things: success over joy, possessions over connection, productivity over purpose. It disconnects us from nature, convinces us that we are separate and above it rather than just another part, bound up in the same laws, limitations and awesome complexity.

I write to show the amazingness of the world and the joy and possibilities of being alive. I aim to reconnect people with themselves, others and nature, access their empathy, creativity and care and use this as a guide for how they think, feel and act. Then let the ripples spread.

Where I’m going

By sharing stories of a hopeful, sustainable and inspiring present and future, I’m joining a diverse global community actively working towards building a healthier, more joyful and equitable world.

My book on ‘life craft’ explores how living with more joy, connection and meaning can transform lives (and just maybe, the world). It combines memoir, personal development and philosophy into a funny, uplifting, celebratory book about life’s shiny possibilities and how to craft your existence into one with as much joy, purpose and curiosity as possible.

I’m exploring the concept in a free Substack newsletter ‘Real life, but better’, exploring life’s shiny, magical possibilities. Subscribe below - it’s free.
